Memorable trip ideas for acknowledging the Memorial Day.

1.      Washington DC.

If you want to go hardcore patriotic, there really isn’t any place better to be this Memorial Day weekend than Washington, DC. In addition to a variety of military ceremonies taking place around town, visitors can also attend the National Memorial Day Parade or the Rolling Thunder Run to the Wall motorcycle rally

2.      Lake Tahoe

A gem on Lake Tahoe, the Resort at Squaw Creek delivers a lot of family fun, beginning with its four pools, 120-foot water slide, and three all-season whirlpools. Golf-loving families can play a quick and easy round on the front nine holes from family tees. Other activities include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, tennis, and fly fishing. Kids ages 4 to 12 can attend the Mountain Buddies program, which offers a variety of activities, including biking, hiking, tennis, swimming, arts and crafts, games and more.

3.      Seattle

Many Seattle hotels have yet to raise their hotel rates for the summer, which means that if you can stand some wind and rain, you may be in for a deal. It’s a busy weekend in Washington state’s biggest city: the annual Northwest Folklife Festival (ethnic, folk, and traditional art, crafts, and music) kicks off on Friday, May 26, and is a huge draw; and the Seattle Film Festival, which lasts 25 days and features more than 400 films from 80 countries, is in its 43rd year and running through June 11. An annual ceremony at The Museum of Flight honors military service with music and a ceremony beginning at 11 a.m.

4.      Charlestown

With its horse-drawn carriages, colorful gardens and cool ocean breezes, Charleston, South Carolina exudes old-world romance. But many visitors also head to Charleston in the hopes of exploring its numerous historic attractions. The Citadel, a nearly 200-year-old military college, offers full-dress parades that are free and open to the public every Friday afternoon, and various Civil War sites can be seen throughout the city and in the surrounding areas.

5.      Las Vegas

If you’re looking to party — and party hard — then Vegas is the obvious choice for a summertime weekend getaway. You can of course expect large crowds in Vegas during this 3-day weekend, but what would Vegas be without the masses of pool-goers, booze-guzzlers and daring gamblers? Pool parties on the Strip will be a priority for most visitors this Memorial Day, but there are also countless clubs, restaurants, bars and shows to attend.
